I enjoyed the game but we should have won it more comfortably rather than having to hang on to the very last minute for the points
No doubt we outplayed and outfought Leeds who now try to play football the right way

A far cry from that awful, cheating, dirty, shower of cloggers from the 70's, for those old enough to remember

I really can't understand why Fornals gets all the stick, perhaps it's the people who know nothing about the game, who always pick on the hod carrier

It's always been the same down the years, Pike, Mullins haters spring to mind

Fornals gets through an incredible amount of work although his finishing and final pass may not always be the best, his technique is there (just look at the way he took the ball down from Cresswell's pass for his last goal). He's young and these things will improve

The whole team played well, except for Haller who continues to be a total liability, even apart from gifting them the first goal and squandering at least 3 relatively easy chances

For a player at this level to be unable to trap the ball without it bouncing 3 yards off him or being unable to turn within a few yards is just not acceptable

Add that to being out muscled by a full back playing CH, half his size and then constantly falling over or giving away a free kick and not going anywhere near a ball unless it's straight to him

40m-? He's not worth 5m and there's no chance of him ever improving

He needs to go

FC - never been a fan of Bamford, but he’d have probably converted one of those Haller chances last night. Quite pleased when he went off.

I know that a lot of people slam Fornals but fuck me he's got some work rate. He's always another player that the oppo have to get around. He was box to box right up until the moment he got hooked.

I think it was about 80 minutes in when he was digging it out of defence then trying to curl the ball around the keeper a minute later.

It must be demoralising to break and surge forward only to see a load of players who were attacking your goal a moment ago back behind the ball

It's ugly, appears to the average Joe as if he's doing fuck all but it does allow others to go on a run knowing he's covering for you.

We're fifth. Don't labour under the illusion that we're doing that despite having 9 men. Haller dragged three defenders towards the near post so Ogg could run unmarked to the far post for our second, despite having a mare of a game.

Cresswell was superb last night, his crossing and set pieces were out of this world. Also I noticed that, despite who is wearing the armband, in the absence of Noble, Cresswell is de facto leader

Sven

Spot on about Fornals.

I also agree that the ref was very good last night.

🎼🎵 Ohhh. Said Benarahama, he
Wears a magic hat

He played for Brentford Nylons but didn't fancy that.

Now he's playing for David Mosey in the Claret And Blue

Give him 90 mins and he'll show you what he can do
:-)

Craig Hope in today's Daily Mail gave Rice 6.0 and Haller 6.5.
Clueless these scribes.

Some Leeds fans were moaning about subbing of Patrick Bamford, to me, he absolutely fucked

Good player though, wish we had him

As for Leeds its good to see a team come up and play in an entertaining ambititous way. Watched a bit of them last season and this and dont think any game has been dull.
Whether they have the players and the energy as the season goes on is another matter.
Good point that it was probably the covid break that let them finish off strongly and get promoted after they collapsed the season before.

The extra running is because they play this man for man style with one spare which is tiring but also makes them vulnerable against better players who can beat their man.
Noticed last night they said they had run 118km .... but that we had run 115 so we matched them.
The pace, energy and running is one of the big improvements in our game from a time when we lacked all of those.
Thats why a player like Fornals who gets stick on here would be loved by the management and players. Does a lot of unappreciated work. Unappreciated by people who know fuck all about football.

I think the Leeds thing at least a fair bit nostalgia.

We consciously or unconsciously pine for things of our personal glory days.

A lot of pundits would have been kids watching football or players when Leeds were last a going concern.

Leeds are a bit naive in their approach to the league. They are very fit that’s plain for all to see but as other have said they seem to run for runnings sake. We are growing in confidence and stature. Ogbona is a beast and I’m loving how he is controlling the back line. Cres is a totally new player and we’re building a good squad with genuine self belief. They’re a happy bunch too and you can see that. No reason in my view why we can’t really push this season for a European spot!

"The fawning over Leeds and Bielsa was a bit odd"

It's probably got something to do with their honest endeavour in the context of a game that still has endeaour, but has lost much of its former honesty.

Agree with Stewie made no difference and isn’t against the rules. I thought the ref was excellent. It’s also refreshing to see almost no diving from both teams. Think I saw one. I like Leeds attitude and commitment, I do think they play naively And sometimes run for the sake of running. A more cultured/mature team picks its battles. They just seemed to run at everything at 100mph like kids in the playground.

They won’t go down and will spend and come back stronger next season.

Re: ⚽ Leeds v West Ham - Official Match Thread
The fawning over Leeds and Bielsa was a bit odd as I always thought Moyes was a fave of the media.

At one point the commentator said something like “West Ham are being more than competitive against Leeds tonight” as if we were some minnow in the FA Cup playing Man City.

To coin a phrase of a much loved WHOer “BIZARRE”.

Re: ⚽ Leeds v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Under the rules, their encroachment didn't have a 'material effect on the outcome'. So if it was saved and he tapped it in, it would have been an indirect free kick to us. Not one of the sillier modern rules , for me.

Fwiw, as we love a moan up, I thought Michael Oliver was excellent last night.

Re: ⚽ Leeds v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Can someone please explain the rules.

first i thought they deserved their first goal as it was a blatant pen.

however i get fab coming off his line is supposedly against the rules and had to be retaken, although i think it is slightly ridiculous it did as it had no bearing on the save.

BUT..... with the pen that did go in, why did they not make him retake it seeing as their player had encroached the area by a good yard before the player hit the pen?

is that not against the rules and should have been retaken?

Fuck me don't the tv crew have a leeds wankfest on their hands this season.

Comma.

My feeling is that the improvement in our team’s results is best observed by that fact that I was disappointed by the Liverpool and Man U results and loved getting a couple of lucky results. Last night was not what I predicted but a really comprehensive performance where we rode out the first half and generally took control. Something I don’t think I’ve seen often at Elland Rd. I’m genuinely curious for the Palace and Chelsea games.

Not sure I agree, for all their possession we had by far the clearer chances. The save from the header would have beaten most keepers, Fornals put one just wide and Balbuena hit the post (amusingly from a cross from Oggy).

One observation.

We clearly play better with no spectators.

Fingers crossed London moves into tier 3 for a few weeks 🙏🙏
